Diabetes During Pregnancy

Gestational diabetes presents unique complications to mother and baby. The mother can develop pre-eclampsia and will be more predisposed to subsequent instances of gestational diabetes in future pregnancies.

The baby, on the other hand, can suffer from extra growth (needing C-section) or low blood sugar, a high risk of developing Type 2 diabetes later in life, or in extreme cases, death before or shortly after being born.
